The Leaves May be Falling but Leaf Sales are Rising

1959 nissanNissan is a front-runner of innovation, even their slogan states: “Innovation that excites.” The company’s goal is to build vehicles that will not only look cool but also alter your lifestyle for the better. What started out as a classic car company has brought the world a 100% electric vehicle, the first Taxi of Tomorrow and even built-to-last trucks that are as innovative as Nissan’s smaller vehicles. In 1958, Datsun, part of Nissan was established in the United States. In 1959, the first Datsun compact was sold in America. Since then, Nissan vehicles have been changed repeatedly to meet the needs of a changing market and malleable consumer base.

In 2010, the Leaf was introduced to the automotive landscape. The Leaf was the world’s first 100% all-electric vehicle. Not only is the Leaf an incredibly efficient model, the lack of noise adds to the illusion that one is flying rather than driving. The Nissan Leaf has 107 horsepower as well as 129/102 MPGe. On September 29, Nissan celebrated National Plug-in Day. This was the third annual Plug-in day and it hit major cities worldwide. There was a big reason to celebrate this year as the number of EVs – both the overall amount on the

2013 nissan leafstreets and the models available—are steadily growing. Comparing December of 2010 to just last month, the number of EVs sold has grown from 345 to 11,000. As of September 29, Nissan had sold more than 35,000 Leaf EV’s making it the most sold in the United States so far. Plug-In America (PIA), the Electric Auto Association and the Sierra Club organized the National Plug-in Day. The day consists of different events in multiple cities and is a celebration of how far EVs have come in just a short amount of time.
